Graduate Software Developers

Junior App Developer,

Different Class Solutions is a small company the specialises in data rich software solutions. As the company grows, there is a need to add structure to the roles within the company. Junior developer is one such role and is a core part of the development team.

The systems developed by the company are predominantly web based and rely on Microsoft technologies, especially using .Net. Most new developments will be built using .Net Core, React, TypeScript, C# and SQL Server, although other technologies may need to be employed. We use an Agile approach to development (using Kanban style task assignment) and often requirements can change rapidly based on feedback, and so flexibility is required.

App development extends on these skills and will use a variety of technologies to develop mobile apps

Essential skills and experience for a junior app developer are:

  • HTML / CSS experience
  • C# experience
  • Xamarin experience
  • Ability to solve problems in code quickly and simply
  • Good understanding of how http and network communication works
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to produce initial results rapidly and iterate based upon feedback

In addition to these core skills, you may be expected to work with any of the following technologies

  • Entity Framework
  • MVC
  • React
  • React Native
  • RESTful API design / Web.API
  • Azure
  • .net Core
  • Dependency Injection
  • SQL Server stored procedures

Company culture

The company is light on meetings – most of your time will be working on projects. Sometimes you may be expected to move from one project to another without much notice, and then back again. As a small company we have many projects, but we cannot dedicate resource to specific projects. We need to assign resource based on the immediate priorities and this can involve rapid change, requiring flexibility.

Location

The office is based at Keele University. Prior to social distancing requirements, there was enough room for everyone to work in the office at the same time, each having a dedicated workspace. Following the lockdown, we have ensured that working from home is possible for all employees, and following the current government guidelines, employees can work from home as much as they wish. However, for junior developers we encourage a couple of days per week in the office if possible, to increase exposure to a knowledge transfer environment. When working from home, contact and communication with managers is essential. Car parking is available for all employees a few minutes’ walk from the office building.
